To a girl in need of a friend, If you don’t get anything out of this letter at all, just remember this one thing. LOVE YOURSELF. If you can take even a fraction of the love you feel for everyone around you and all the caring and giving and helping and just give it to yourself. You will be infinitely better. If you can just learn to do one small thing for yourself each day, you might be able to avoid the pain that is in your path right now. You think all you are doing is hurting yourself but you aren’t. If you knew how much pain and sadness you are and will be causing others by making yourself sick, you would never do it. I can tell you right now, you will not get thin by doing this. This behavior will not solve your problems. If I were you, I would ask you what would solve my problems. I don’t know the answer. I do know that what you have begun is a long and treacherous journey. If you can stop on your own, do it and never start again. If you can’t stop on your own, get help! NOW! Because the longer you wait, the worse it will be. I know you probably don’t care about your health right now but you will. When you start to lose it, you will wish you had cared sooner. There are so many people out there with health problems that they can’t avoid. You can avoid them. Don’t take your health for granted! When I first began being bulimic, I thought it would be an easy way to lose weight. It wasn’t easy, It was hard, and it was gross and it was not fun. The worst part was that I didn’t lose weight! After all that effort, all I managed to do was give myself permanent acid reflux. Now, every time I eat anything I experience heart burn. If I even slightly over-eat, my body will automatically try and get rid of the extra food. You can imagine for yourself how awkward that might be when you are with other people. I even have used mugs and cups to throw up into so that I could do other things like homework or watch TV and still be able to get rid of the food that came up whether I wanted it to or not. For the longest time, I didn’t think that my disease was bad enough to merit treatment. I thought that since I wasn’t skinny and since I hadn’t had to visit the hospital, I was okay. On the outside, I looked okay but on the inside, my body was suffering. I have such low iron from the constant purging that I have become anemic. My immune system is so weak that I have lost the ability to fight disease. It is hard to believe that something that started out so insignificant has become the main subject of my attention. You don’t want to be me. Don’t be me, don’t do this to yourself.
It's so easy to look around and notice what's wrong. It takes practice to see what's right. Many of us have lived around negatively for years. We've become skilled and labeling what's wrong with other people, are life, our work, our day our relationship, ourselves our conduct ,our recovery. We want to be realistic, and our goal is to identify and accept reality.
However, this is often not our intent when we practice negativity. The purpose of negativity is usually annihilation.
Negative thinking EMPOWERS the problem. It takes us out of HARMONY. Negative energy sabotages and destroys. It has a POWERFUL life on its own.
So does POSITIVE energy. Each day, we can ask what's right, what's good about other people, our life, our work our day our relationships, ourselves, our conduct, our recovery.
Positive energy HEALS , conducts love, transforms.
